2019 Annual General Meeting
AMUSE is holding its 2019 Annual General Meeting on Thursday, January 31 at 6pm in Leacock 26. All members are encouraged to attend to vote and/or run for election, hear annual reports, and vote on the 2019-20 budget, among other items.
All AMUSE terms are for one year, so all Executive positions except for VP Floor Fellow (President, Internal Affairs Officer, Labour Relations Officer, Communications & Outreach Officer, Treasurer), along with 10 of our 12 Board Delegate seats, will be up for election. We encourage anyone interested in running, especially for an Executive position, to get in touch to learn more about the role. You can find a general outline of duties in Article 12 of our by-laws. At this time, we know that AMUSE’s current Treasurer will not be presenting for re-election, so we particularly encourage anyone interested in that position to reach out!
Pay Equity Settlement
Following a lengthy conciliation process, AMUSE and McGill reached a settlement agreement in December to resolve our pay equity complaints from 2010 and 2015. As a result, AMUSE Unit A members dating back to 2010 will receive a retroactive pay increase.
If you worked as an AMUSE casual (whether Class A, B, or C) or a MUNACA replacement worker anytime between December 21, 2010 and December 7, 2018, then you are included in this settlement (Floor Fellows are Unit B members, and are not affected). The amount of money owed to you by McGill increases according to how recently and how much (calculated by the amount of hours) you have worked at McGill.
Because thousands of AMUSE workers are affected over a period dating back up to eight years, the process will take some time. Neither AMUSE nor McGill are currently able to provide specific information regarding individual files. Present and past AMUSE members will be contacted directly about their retroactive payments in the coming months; if you are currently working, you should be contacted and paid by McGill within the next 60 days. We will also be sending further details for anyone needing to update their contact information — please continue to read our newsletters and check our website for updates as the process gets underway.
