Negotiations Update

Our elected team of negotiators met with the university’s appointed bargaining representatives this morning to try and come to an agreement after talks lasted for more than a year and a half. Their aim this morning was to secure a commitment from the employer that the Work Study job system will be renovated according to our member’s urgent needs.

Our goals with Work Study (which were not reached)

To mandate that Work Study jobs be posted in a transparent and standardized manner.

To mandate that a feedback mechanism be created to empower students to have a say in how the Work Study program affects students as workers.

At 5pm, our team reached an impasse when the university’s negotiators refused to bargain on any terms but their own. We are ready to continue talks on terms of equality but as a result of the university’s refusal to meet us halfway, the strike committee saw no choice but to call a strike effective immediately.
