Bargaining Updates!

Dear members of AMUSE,

The following are a few updates for this week:

  1. Bargaining Updates (September 20, 2011)
  2. Sit-in at Senate THIS THURSDAY in support of MUNACA
  3. MUNACA Strike: overdue pay for casuals?

Bargaining Updates

As you may know, negotiations between AMUSE and McGill have been moved to 1000 La Gauchetière, at McGill’s law firm office. We met yesterday and finalized some articles pertaining to Disciplinary Measures, and Administrative Dismissals, and began discussion on Employee Files, and Health and Safety Regulations.

At earlier meetings we have drafted and agreed to articles pertaining to

  1. the scope and nature of the bargaining unit (who and what is a casual worker?)
  2. union recognition, information sharing, union dues, the relationship between McGill and
    AMUSE
  3. anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policies
  4. definitions of terms
  5. the rights of management
  6. the rights of union, such as office space, “liberation” from work of union members in order to
    do union work
  7. grievance resolution procedures, setting up a Labour Relations Committee to facilitate
communication between Management and the Union, and arbitration

At the next meeting we will discuss articles pertaining to Employee files and Health and Safety regulations. We have also set additional bargaining dates for the next three months. We will now meet on average once a week instead of once every two weeks.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected].

Sit-in at Senate THIS THURSDAY in support of MUNACA

There is an action tomorrow in support of MUNACA. We’ll gather at the Roddick Gates at 2 pm *sharp* and head up to the McGill Senate meeting which starts at 2:30 in the Leacock building.

McGill’s Senate is made up of students, profs, and administrators and makes decisions about all things “academic” (however that is defined). Mob Squad will be there to hand out lots of MUNACA buttons and sit in on the meeting.

Schedule:

2 pm: Gather at Roddick Gates
2:15 pm: Leave for Leacock building
2:30 pm: Senate meeting starts (Leacock 232)
During senate meeting: Sit in on the meeting, wear green or wear a MUNACA button, and make your presence felt!

Also, each week members of the SSMU, AGSEM, AMURE and AMUSE are asked to wear green to campus in solidarity with MUNACA members. This week’s Day is Tomorrow (Thursday).

MUNACA Strike: a Reminder

We have been receiving reports that AMUSE workers are not getting paid for their hours. McGill is required by the Labour Code to pay their employees in 16 days, whether or not a strike is happening. If this is happening to you we encourage you to contact the Principal’s office at 514-398-4180. A number of casuals have tried this before and it has worked wonders-they received their pay shortly thereafter. It’s perhaps the most efficient way to get your overdue pay.

We’d also like to remind you to report to us if you’ve been offered to do work and hours usually done by MUNACA workers. You have every right to refuse such work without penalty, as it is illegal under the Quebec Labour Code.
