1. Fall Office Hours
With the new semester on our heels, we’d like to announce that our office hours have been updated for the Fall term. We encourage you to come and meet the members of the executive team, find out more about your union and consult us with any questions you may have concerning your rights in the workplace.
Our office is located at 2015 rue Drummond, suite #901. You can also reach us at our telephone number 514-282-9555.
As always, members can contact any Executive Committee member to arrange a meeting to address any questions or concerns outside of regular office hours.
Fall Semester Office hours until December 21, 2012:
Monday: 17:30-19:30
Tuesday: by appointment only
Wednesday: 9:00-11:00 and 13:30-15:30
Thursday: 10:00-13:00
Friday: 13:30-15:30
2. The Collective Agreement
We would like to remind our members that the Collective Agreement is available on our website at https://www.amusemcgill.org/collective-agreement/collective-agreement. Find out about your rights in the workplace, contract requirements, minimum breaks and salary requirements, vacation pay, holiday pay, sick leave, and more. We’ve covered the basics in this guide which can help you familiarize yourself with some major points of the agreement. Make sure you are receiving all the benefits our bargaining team fought for!
3. Join an AMUSE Committee
Joining a committee is a great way to get involved with AMUSE that can be suited to your individual interests and strengths. Right now we have three committee meetings planned for the coming weeks. Each of these meetings will be held at the AMUSE office, located at 2015 Drummond Street in office suite 901.
Equity Committee
Tuesday, September 25th at 5:30 – 7:00 pm
Are you interested in equity issues? Have ideas for integrating anti-oppression into the union?
This will be the first ever meeting of the Equity Committee and will be an opportunity to set goals and a mandate.
Outreach and Mobilization Committee
Monday, October 1st at 5:30 – 7:00 pm
Would you like to help plan events, write publications, and brainstorm new ideas with our mobilization team? This committee will work on expanding and improving AMUSE’s outreach campaigns, as well as building the union community.
Constitution Committee
Wednesday, October 3rd at 5:30 – 7:00 pm
We’re working on reviewing our By Laws and internal policies – if you like reading, writing, and discussions about grammar then this committee is for you! You may find our By Laws on our website at https://www.amusemcgill.org/internal-documents/bylaws and bring your ideas, or at the beginning of this meeting we will review a couple areas of focus.
4. Special General Meeting
AMUSE will hold a Special General Meeting in October to discuss and vote on a resolution to change union dues. This Special GM was called at the July Board of Representatives (BoR) meeting in response to the final report from the Dues Committee, which has been working since May to determine the best rate for the union’s dues. The Board voted to approve the Dues Committee motion for a Special General Meeting where any AMUSE member can come to vote on this motion.
The General Meeting is the highest governing body of AMUSE and is an opportunity for members to have a direct voice in the operations of the union. It is also an opportunity to meet the Executive Committee and BoR, as well as ask questions and learn how to get involved. We sincerely hope that you will attend.
Date: Wednesday, October 10, 2012
Time: 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm
Location: Leacock Building, room 232
