Dear members of AMUSE,
The following are a few updates on the MUNACA Strike. The most important item to keep in mind is the solidarity rally that will be held tomorrow (Friday). We invite all AMUSE members to show their support to our brothers and sisters at MUNACA. Here is a list of the items of this newsletter.
- Join the Rally in Support of MUNACA Workers
- Statement on MUNACA’s Bargaining Demands: a Clarification by Labour Unions at McGill
- Updates on MUNACA Strike: Conciliation, picket lines, and how much longer?

Join the Rally in Support of MUNACA Workers
We encourage all AMUSE members to attend the rally held tomorrow in support of MUNACA member’s demands. We’ll have a march into campus before joining other supporters and picketers near Roddick gates. MUNACA’s struggle to obtain fair wages and job protection is also AMUSE’s struggle-as is the case with other labour unions on campus. As casual workers, we often work side by side with MUNACA members and we have often witnessed their dedication and hard-work in making this University work. Show your support. Come to the rally:
Friday (tomorrow)
11:15 AM
In front of the SSMU
See you there!
Statement on MUNACA’s Bargaining Demands: a Clarification by Labour Unions at McGill
Representatives from AMUSE, AGSEM, and AMURE, have put together a statement clarifying the demands of the MUNACA bargaining team. The McGill Administration has sent a number of emails outlining their point of view, and they have on numerous ocassions distort the substance of MUNACA’s demands.

Updates on MUNACA Strike: Conciliation, picket lines, and how much longer?
MUNACA has met with McGill for conciliation twice in the past week. They have dates running into October. We think that the strike will last well into the end of the month. But strikes are always unpredictable. We’d like to remind you to report to us if you’ve been offered to do work and hours usually done by MUNACA workers. You have every right to refuse such work without penalty, as it is illegal under the Quebec Labour Code.

This is a message to those AMUSE members who happens to also study at McGill. Although there are many things happening at McGill right now, we wanted to take a minute to remind you to get to know the Fee-Levy Groups at McGill. As a union, AMUSE negotiates collective agreements and defends the rights of temporary workers at McGill, but we are also here to help build a sense of community and solidarity for our members, many of whom are also McGill students. Students, faculty, and workers are all part of the McGill community, which benefits immensely from the work of the Fee-Levy groups, which are independent organizations funded by student fees. We encourage you to check out their resources and the services they offer. More info can be found here: https://ourcampusourcommunity.com/
