Movie Night and Special General Meeting

August 4th, 2012
Dear members of AMUSE,

The following are updates for this week:

  1. McGill Inter-Union Council Movie Night
  2. Special General Meeting

1. McGill Inter-Union Council Movie Night

The McGill Inter-Union Council is pleased to extend an open invitation to our first movie night on Wednesday, August 8th, 2012 at the AMUSE/AMURE office at 2015 Drummond, suite #901. Doors open at 6:30, Film begins at 7pm sharp.

This week we will be screening “Final Offer” which the National Film Board describes as follows: “The filmmakers were given remarkable freedom to record the historic 1984 contract negotiations between the United Auto Workers and General Motors Corporation. Bob White, labour leader of the Canadian branch of the UAW, must also confront his American counterpart from Detroit and succeeds in arriving at a contract that is significantly Canadian. His members had already given him a mandate to fight for independence from the American union. This is an invaluable document for anyone interested in the complexities of United States-Canada relations. It’s an extraordinary film about revolutionary events.”

This is the beginning of a bi-weekly movie night series on unions, labour, and struggle. Refreshments will be served, and the film will be followed by informal discussion. The film will be screened in English, whisper translation into French available.
