1. AMUSE’s New Office
Over the past two years our friends at MUNACA (McGill University Non-Academic Certified Association) have been kind enough to provide us with office space in their building on Peel Street. However, we have since grown and moved to a new office space at 2015 Drummond Street, suite 901, which we will be sharing with AMURE (the Association of McGill University Research Employees). You can also reach us at our new telephone number 514-282-9555.
AMUSE will begin holding regular office hours this week. As always, members can contact any Executive Committee member to arrange a meeting to address any questions or concerns outside of regular office hours.
Summer Office Hours
Monday: 11:30 am - 1:30 pm and 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Tuesday: 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm
Wednesday: 9:00 am - 11:00 am
Thursday: 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
2. Collective Agreement : Has it been applied to your position properly?
The Collective Agreement was signed on April 20th 2012 and all changes should have been put in place on that date. Some of the elements of the agreement that apply to all members are listed below.
All AMUSE members should have:
- a written contract
- the opportunity to sign a union membership card
- receive 4% vacation pay
- received a 1% wage increase as of April 20th 2012 (if you did not previously receive an increase in 2012)
- the right to request the presence of a union representative in any meetings with their supervisors
- received adequate training for their job
Are you missing any of these points? If so email [email protected] with your name, the department where you work, and the feature(s) that you might be missing.
For more detailed information on the features of the collective agreement that apply to your position, visit our ‘Know Your Rights’ guide at https://www.amusemcgill.org/documents/know-your-rights
3. Get involved in your union: Steward Training Day
Are you interested in getting involved in AMUSE, but not sure how? Becoming a steward is one way that you can help build the union as well as directly help your coworkers.
On Friday July 13th we will be holding a day of workshops to educate new stewards on the union, our Collective Agreement, unions in the university sector, and more! For more information on becoming a steward or on the Steward Training Day please contact [email protected].
4. Call Out: Inter Union Council ‘Year in Review’ publication
The McGill Inter Union Council is seeking texts for submission to a Year in Review publication, looking back on the 2011-2012 academic year.
From the MUNACA strike to the province wide student strikes, it has been an eventful year for student-labour solidarity and the Inter Union Council, a group composed of representatives from AGSEM, AMURE, AMUSE, MUNACA, PGSS, SSMU, and MFLAG, is working on a project to look back on the events of the past year and look forward to solidarity in the future.
This publication is open to submissions from all members of the McGill community. All submissions are due by August 15, 2012.
For more information on submitting please see this page.
