Tentative Agreement Signed!

We are pleased to announce to our members that last night our Bargaining Team signed a tentative agreement with the University. We have been in negotiations with McGill since March of last year and our Bargaining Team has worked hard to ensure that all six of our bargaining priorities are included in the agreement.

Our bargaining priorities, established through surveys collected during Summer and Fall 2010, are:

1. fair wage increases

2. priority for AMUSE members for contract renewals/promotions

3. written contracts

4. paid overtime

5. paid sick leave

6. “closed shop” - this sixth priority ensures that all members of the bargaining unit are members of AMUSE

This agreement is “tentative” because it must be approved by the members of the union before it can be signed and implemented in the workplace. This is done through a ratification vote at a General Assembly. We hope to be able to hold this General Assembly during the week of March 6th and to have two voting sessions, one smaller vote during the day and one large vote in the evening, to make sure that as many members are able to vote as possible. At both assemblies the agreement will be explained to members by the Bargaining Team and members will be given the opportunity to vote to accept or decline the agreement.

More information about the ratification vote will be sent to the membership through our email listserve and posted on this website as soon as the date, time and location are confirmed. We will also post a summary of the tentative agreement as soon as possible.
