AMUSE Has a Board of Representatives Spot Open!

Our Board of Representatives has a spot open that you can help fill. As a Delegate to the Board, you would be responsible for coming to our monthly meeting, anunnamedd sitting on at least one committee. Most committees also meet once a month, and engage sporadic work between meetings. Of course, all work you do for AMUSE is liberated (you get paid!), and all delegates to the Board receive an honorarium per meeting. BoR meetings always include food, friends, and planning some really cool, kick-ass union stuff.

Our next meeting is on Thursday, September 17 at 6:30pm in the AMUSE Boardroom (515 ave des Pins O). Contact our Chair, Billy, to find out more and to RSVP for our next meeting.

Callout for Event Proposals: Demilitarize McGill’s Remembrance and Militarism Event Series

Demilitarize McGill is currently soliciting event proposals to be held in the first two weeks of November, 2015 as part of their upcoming event series on Remembrance and Militarism. Events can include panel discussions, workshops, film screenings, walking tours, performances, etc. Below is some more information from them:

“Every year, the Royal Canadian Legion holds a Remembrance Day ceremony on McGill’s campus, bringing active and veteran members of the Canadian Forces and RCMP, artillery, unnamed (1)armoured vehicles, and other weapons onto campus in a bombastic and uncritical celebration of Canadian war-making and policing.

We believe that, regardless of any individual acts of bravery and self-sacrifice that military personnel may have committed, the overall histories of these institutions are stories of imperialism, genocide, and tragedy, not the triumphant heroism the official history proclaims. As red and white poppies begin to appear on lapels this fall, we want to invite reflection on Canada’s history (and present) of militarism, as well as resistance to state violence in all its forms and celebrations of those who have stood up to these institutions over time.

Join us in countering the official Remembrance Day ceremony with two weeks of popular education, critical discussion, and movement-building!

DEADLINE: Email [email protected] by September 28th with your event title, a max. 250-word description, organizer names and bios, and any scheduling or support needs. An honorarium will be provided for each event.”
