[AMUSE Newsletter] AGM Results; New Exec; Tax Deductible Union Dues; Events

Hello Friends,

Hope this email finds you in a warm and happy place. My name is Nathalie and I will be filling your inbox with exciting union updates, as the new AMUSE Communications and Outreach Coordinator. Feel free to come by office hours to say hi, and be sure to connect via Facebook. Without further ado, here’s your latest on all things AMUSE!

AGM RESULTS

Last Monday’s AGM was remarkable success. There was a good turnout, active participation, and great food. Last year’s reports from your executive, committees and board were also approved at the meeting. You can find them all included in the official Annual General Report. New goals for the following year were laid out, and a new yearly budget was approved. Documents from the AGM are available upon request.

Some very big changes were also voted on and approved:

1) MUNACA Merger Approved

After an insightful question and answer period, members voted to approve a political merger between AMUSE and MUNACA. Discussion on the changes that this will bring in our union’s structure should go on for the next couple of months, with more news to come!

2) Bargaining Priorities Approved

Members also voted to approve the Bargaining Priorities for Unit A, which the negotiating team will fight for in bargaining for the next collective agreement. These are available upon request.
3) Executive and Board Changes

Members also elected a new team of executives who will be working for you this year:

President – Amber Gross, [email protected]
Communications & Outreach – Nathalie Gondek, [email protected]
Internal Affairs – Molly Swain, [email protected]
Treasurer – Carolyn Qin, [email protected]
Labour Relations Officer – Claire Michela [email protected]

Address from your new Labour Relations Officer - Claire!

Most of your exec is returning with the experience and wisdom from last year, but the Labour Relations Officer is an exciting new face. You can feel confident contacting her about any problems regarding your work conditions.

“Hello! My name is Claire and I currently work full time at the McGill Institute for Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies. As Labour Relations Officer this year, I am looking forward to representing you as our union goes through some exciting changes. It’s a big year coming up - we’ll be following up on those pay equity adjustments, moving forward with the political merger with MUNACA, and bargaining for AMUSE’s second ever Collective Agreement! If you have any questions about these issues, or other issues in your workplace, please do not hesitate to email me at [email protected].”

TAX TIPS

In other news, we want to remind everyone the your union dues are tax deductible!
See here for information on how to indicate your union dues on your tax return.
