[January 9, 2013]
Dear AMUSE members,
The date of the Annual General Meeting has been set for Thursday, January 31st at 6:00 pm in the Leacock Building, room 232. Come early (beginning at 5:30 pm) for coffee, food, to meet your union reps, and ask questions.
The AGM is held at the beginning of every year and is an opportunity for all members to check in on what the union has been up to for the past year, vote on motions, and elect your new representatives (or run for a position!).
Elections:
All positions are up for election:
- the Executive Committee:
-President
-Vice President
-Communications and Secretariat Officer
-Treasurer
-Labour Relations Officer
- Delegates to the Board of Representatives as Chief Stewards (twelve positions)
- Stewards (unlimited number of positions)
Positions on the Executive Committee and Chief Stewards are elected by a majority vote done by secret ballot at the meeting. Stewards stand for appointment and an unlimited number may be appointed.
If you are interested in running for any positions but have questions about the electoral procedure please contact the Elections Officer at [email protected] . If you have questions about the specifications of any position please see our By Laws (https://www.amusemcgill.org/wp-content/uploads/AMUSE-Bylaws.pdf).
The nomination period for any of these positions opens during the AGM just prior to the elections and candidates may nominate themselves.
What is a Steward?
Stewards are the eyes, ears and limbs of the union, directly interacting with the membership and representing their concerns and aspirations. The stewards are the cornerstones of any union, and are present across departments to make sure that employees’ rights are not being infringed upon and are a friendly face for anyone with questions about their work conditions, their rights as workers and members of AMUSE, and the union.
For more information on Stewardship please see Article 14 of our By Laws located on our website at https://www.amusemcgill.org/wp-content/uploads/AMUSE-Bylaws.pdf or contact the union directly for further questions.
Motions:
Any member can submit a motion to be considered at the AGM.
All motions should be submitted to AMUSE by Thursday, January 10th 2013, in order to be approved by the Board of Representatives. If you have questions or are unable to meet this deadline please contact us at [email protected].
